Partnering with Large Law Firms
One of Michael’s principal responsibilities, as Deputy General Counsel and as head of the corporate law group at MAPFRE USA, was collaborating with lawyers from some of the finest and largest firms in the U.S.
Together with outside counsel, we closed transactions and delivered favorable outcomes to disputes.
In addition, Michael and outside law firms closed on numerous alternative fee arrangements.
We partner with larger law firms in the following ways:
- We partner with large firms, which do not have insurance, reinsurance, or regulatory practices, in connection with mergers & acquisitions, private equity investments, and other transactions with insurance elements.
- We help law firms respond to requests for proposals (RFPs) for legal services based on experience in helping select RFP winners.
- Pricing for legal services is becoming more competitive. We partner with large law firms that are looking to leverage our big firm experience and our low rates.
- Our rates are low because our overhead is low, with an office in Woodstock, Vermont, and our goal is to work with clients and partners on matters that are a good match.
- Increasingly, contract negotiations and management get bogged down because contracts are drafted and even negotiated by junior lawyers, non-U.S.-based lawyers, non-lawyers, and even non-lawyers using artificial intelligence.
- And large law firms are having trouble attracting and retaining associates.
- We work with colleagues at larger law firms to augment client teams with an experienced lawyer who is detail-oriented but who understands the big picture.
